I walk alone...

James Gallagher is a retired United States Air Force pilot, who flew missions over Iraq and many other war zones. Playing golf was his getaway. At one point, he broke his back while fighting and the Air Force had him sign a waiver saying that he'd never play golf again. Well, he's back playing golf...and quite well, actually. He'll be playing in the Senior British Open next week. No word yet on if he'll have a caddie.

The story behind the photo is that Gallagher is reserved and quiet man. I thought the photo spoke perfectly to that. For three of the four days of the Eastern Am tournament, he carried his own bag. On Sunday, after the story was published, people lined-up to volunteer to carry his bag.

Thanks for looking.

Often quiet, golfer James Gallagher walks the 16th fairway alone and away from the other members in his threesome during the third-round of the Eastern Amateur Open, Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Elizabeth Manor Country Club in Portsmouth.
